We tested 70 CompactFlash and SD cards in 20 card readers to see which is fastest at transferring photos to the computer. GretagMacbeth Eye-One Match 3.6.1 posted

GretagMacbeth has released an update to its Eye-One Match colour management software for Mac and Windows. V3.6.1 is the first version to officially support Macs with Intel processors inside (though the application is not yet a Universal Binary), while the Windows release includes x64 drivers for the Eye-One iO.

Nikon posts teaser for new 10.2-megapixel DSLR

The Nikon Imaging Global web site has posted a teaser for what it says will be a new 10.2-megapixel digital SLR "addition to the lineup" that will be announced in 20 days. Based on one phrase in the teaser -- "integrating quality and affordability to meet the demands of passionate photo enthusiasts" -- it seems like a reasonable guess that the camera will fall somewhere below the D200 in Nikon's lineup.

SanDisk poised to unveil Extreme IV CompactFlash and Extreme Readers

Later today, SanDisk will unveil a new CompactFlash series capable of card-to-computer transfer rates that are well over twice as fast as the quickest cards currently available. Dubbed Extreme IV and slated for release in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB capacities, the new line also puts SanDisk back at or near the top of the leaderboard in digital SLR write speed. Lexar to ship 8GB 133X CompactFlash in August

Lexar today has announced an addition to its line of CompactFlash cards aimed at working photographers: joining the 1GB, 2GB and 4GB capacities in the company's Professional 133X range is an 8GB model. Noise Ninja standalone and plug-in updated

PictureCode has posted updates to Noise Ninja that bring the standalone edition to version 2.1.1 and the Photoshop plug-in edition to version 2.1.3. The standalone version now runs natively on Linux x86 and Intel-based Macs (it is also available for Windows.) Other changes, common to both editions, are bug fixes and support for reading ISO information from some recent Canon point-and-shoot cameras.

Hasselblad posts release version of FlexColor 4.6 for Mac

Hasselblad has posted the official version of FlexColor 4.6 for Mac. The latest release of the software for Hasselblad/Imacon digital backs and scanners, as well as the included R166 firmware for newer backs that accept CompactFlash cards, makes a number of changes to the file format, colour and noise processing of Hasselblad/Imacon image files. The Windows version of 4.6 is still at the public beta stage.

The STOCK ARTISTS ALLIANCE has published a document it is calling a "Metadata Manifesto" that calls for a coordinated effort among photographers and users/distributors of photography to develop guidelines and practices for the use of metadata in digital images. The organization's particular concern is to ensure clear and durable copyright notification.
